Bishop Burbidge’s Ash Wednesday Homily and Lenten Guidelines
Hundreds of Masses were celebrated throughout the Diocese on Ash Wednesday as Catholics gathered at their local parishes to begin the Lenten season. The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge celebrated noon Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral for a standing room only gathering.
In his homily, the Bishop said the forty-day journey of Lent calls us to examine our priorities in life, allowing us to reflect upon the areas that may require radical changes.
“Today, we are ever mindful of our need to turn away from sin,” the Bishop said. “I encourage you to celebrate His infinite mercy in the Sacrament of Penance at the beginning of Lent, and to know the peace that only He can give.”
