40 Days for Life Campaign Begins
The 40 Days for Life Campaign began at midnight, Ash Wednesday in 59 cities across the country with Raleigh one of the targeted communities. The ecumenical campaign is an effort to raise awareness, save lives, bring healing and lead our nation to repentance for the sin of abortion.
In a letter to the Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Raleigh, The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge invited parishioners to include in their Lenten activities advocating for the protection of human life. He noted the three components of the campaign in which the faithful can participate; prayer and fasting for 40 days, participating in a peaceful vigil outside the National Women’s Health Organization in Raleigh and by community outreach.
Bishop Burbidge asked interested men and women to consider participating in prayer outside the abortion clinic during the Season of Lent. The Bishop was present for one hour on Ash Wednesday morning praying the rosary with approximately 40 men, women and children.
“In this Season focused on the conversion of hearts,” the Bishop wrote in his letter, “continue the many activities that give witness to our commitment to work always for the protection and defense of the unborn.”
