Young Adult Mission Trip

Projects for Upcoming Trip

larger font

Our major foci for the mission trip will be threefold: Construction, Medicine and Education.

Construction

This year, we will be undertaking the biggest project in our eight years of ministry as we work together to build a school for Honduran special needs students. When our Young Adults were previously in Honduras on a medical mission, four Honduran special education teachers specifically asked for help with building this special education center.

In order to minimize the school’s ongoing operational expenses, the school will be powered by solar energy! We have four dedicated engineers, including a solar energy expert, ready to transform sunshine into light for Honduran education.

As a consequence of malnourishment and other social factors, many Honduran children are unable to function normally. Such a school, in this instance, is not only necessary, but a matter of human rights and social justice. That’s why we’re passionate about this project!

Medicine

The most essential medical needs are maternal and pediatric, but we will provide clinical services to various communities. As in previous years, we will set up temporary clinics and treat people to the best of our abilities and resources. We have two doctors, two nurses and a medical student on our mission team. In addition, we provide on the job training as needed to others on the team so that we can work together to provide the best care possible to this community.

Because the cost of "Western medicine" is prohibitively expensive, alternative medicine is very attractive to many Hondurans. A significant aspect of medical care for our team will be to provide important health information.

Education

We have been asked to do two types of projects with respect to education: First, we will educate the people about basic health care, especially health maintenance, disease prevention, and nutrition. Second, we will assist a team of teachers who are beginning this special education project. The educators we have on this trip will be working with teachers and students to get their initiatives underway. Team members may be involved as informal teacher assistants, to help set up classrooms, or in any number of capacities, based on need.
