Who are Young Adults?
The USCCB defines young adults as ages 18-35+, single or married. Young Adults are parents, college students, doctors, lawyers, teachers, landscapers, writers, and every other career. Often overlooked are those in the military and prisons. Young adulthood entails four tasks: developing a personal identity, relationships, a meaning of work, and a spiritual life.
What is the Office of Young Adult Ministry?
The Young Adult Ministry Department of the Division of Evangelization and Catechesis strives to promote the evangelizing mission of the Diocese of Raleigh by empowering parishes to implement comprehensive young adult ministry as called for in the US Bishops' document Sons and Daughters of the Light (USCCB, 1997) and supported by the General Directory for Catechesis (USCC, 1997) in order to cultivate mature Catholic Christian disciples of Jesus Christ. This mission will be promoted by providing direct services (diocesan programs, events, etc.) and support services (training, consultation, networking) for clergy, parish staff, and young adult leaders.
If you've got an idea for a program for young adults or want to get a YAM going in your parish, contact Mike Hagarty in the diocesan Office of Young Adult Ministry (see below for contact information).
