  • The Office of the Diaconate is now accepting applications for a new English-speaking class of applicants. All applications are due by August 1, 2009, in order to prepare for fall classes. Please see the attached cover letter from Fr. Garneau (PDF) for information and dates for the 2009-2010 formation program. Anyone interested in obtaining an application should contact Deacon Felix Saez in the Office of the Diaconate.
  • We would like to congratulate those within the diaconate community whom Bishop Burbidge has recently appointed to the Deacon Community Board of the Diocese of Raleigh. Those appointed include: Deacon William Cortright, Mrs. Mary Ellen Cortright, Deacon Juan Henriquez, Mrs. Linda Hoffert, Deacon Bert L'Homme, Deacon Orlando Pérez, Deacon George C. Stonikinis, Jr., Deacon Hector Velazco, and Deacon Michael Walsh. The next meeting of the Deacon Community Board will be Sunday, March 22, 2009 in Mount Olive.
  • We welcome Deacon Felix Saez, Jr. to our office staff as secretary for the Office of the Diaconate. Deacon Felix previously served in Henderson, NC and is now assigned to the Office of the Diaconate and St. Mary Catholic Church in Mount Olive. It is a great benefit to have a deacon assisting us in this office and in the process of forming new deacons.
  • Saturday, May 30, 2009 will be a second day of discernment for any Catholic man interested in becoming a candidate for the Permanent Diaconate. Msgr. Jeffrey A. Ingham will build on Fr. Shlesinger's November theme of prayer and discernment. This retreat day will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mount Olive, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A $10.00 offering is requested from each participant. Lunch will be provided. Location: St. Mary Catholic Church, 313 West Main St., Mount Olive, NC 28365. Please register by contacting Mr. Eric Brown (contact information below).
  • As of July 8, 2008, Fr. James F. Garneau was appointed new Director of the Office of the Permanant Diaconate. He has hired Mr. Eric T. Brown as his administrative assistant. The offices have been relocated to Mount Olive, NC.
