Doorways to Formation in the Faith

About Doorways to Formation in the Faith

Aware of the importance of forming catechists in the Catholic Faith, the Diocese, through the Catechetical Institute, has offered basic catechist certification courses based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The framework currently in place offers six courses, each twelve hours in length, for basic catechist certification. Over the years, many priests, deacons, religious men and women and the lay faithful have generously provided formation and education to assist adults to grow and deepen their Catholic Faith.

In light of the Year of Faith with Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Letter, Porta Fidei, Bishop Burbidge has approved the name change from the “Catechetical Institute” to “Doorways to Formation in the Faith”.

“The ‘door to faith’ (Acts 14:27) is always open for us, ushering us into the life of communion with God and offering entry into his Church. It is possible to cross that threshold when the word of God is proclaimed and the heart allows itself to be shaped by transforming grace.... To enter through that door is to set out on a journey that lasts a lifetime.”

-Benedict XVI, Apostolic Letter, Porta Fidei

The framework of the courses has not changed; however, the Diocese of Raleigh seeks to improve course content, assistance to facilitators, promotion, accessibility, and attendance records. This will be accomplished in collaboration with the various diocesan offices which are charged with forming adults in the Catholic Faith, under the supervision of Sister Rose Marie Adams, IHM.

Doorways to Formation in the Faith offers courses in two learning formats: Onsite Courses are available at selected sites in each deanery (offered in English and Spanish), and Online Courses are available through our partnership with the University of Dayton Virtual Learning Community program http://vlc.udayton.edu, the University of Notre Dame Satellite Theological Education program http://step.nd.edu, and for youth ministers, with Ministry Training Source: http://www.ministrytrainingsource.org.
