Under the Dome, Pt. 2: The Sanctuary & the Spirituality of the Architecture

In the second of a three-part video series, Jim O'Brien, Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral architect, continues to describe his approach in creating the final designs of the new cathedral.

“This is the home of the Diocese,” he explains, “where you will gather in union with the whole Church under the leadership of the Bishop to encounter our Lord in the Word and in the Sacrament.”

The inspiration for elements of the sanctuary design, such as columns and light fixtures, comes from the Book of Revelation, Chapters 1-2, where Saint John the Apostle describes the vision he has of the elders, the Apostles, the seven burning torches and the “living creatures” in heaven.
