Bishop Burbidge calls for prayer in response to Pentagon announcement

Upon hearing today’s report from the news media, that Marines from North Carolina’s Camp Lejeune will be called to the Persian Gulf to assist in protecting Americans in Iraq, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of the Diocese of Raleigh issued the following statement:

"This latest announcement by the Pentagon is yet another reminder of how generous the men and women in our Armed Forces are to this great nation. At a moment’s notice, they are called to protect the innocent—and they do so with unwavering commitment and courage. This news is challenging not only for those called to serve, but it is especially challenging for their families, who also sacrifice in the defense of freedom.

"With more Marines being dedicated to the Persian Gulf, I ask all Catholics in the Diocese of Raleigh to pray for the men and women serving our nation’s Armed Forces, that God would grant them peace and resolve during this time. I would like those serving our nation to know that I am praying for you and your families."
