Bishop Burbidge calls for prayer after announcement of Fort Bragg deployments

After hearing today's news regarding a new deployment of troops to Afghanistan from Fort Bragg, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh issued the following statement:

The announcement that there will be more than 1,700 troops deployed from Fort Bragg to Afghanistan is a sobering reminder of the violence and turmoil taking place around the globe, as well as the commitment of our men and women in uniform to defend freedom for all people. Prior to the deployment, we should keep the personnel and their families in our prayers, as this is undoubtedly a challenging time. And we ask our Lord to grant them peace during their time abroad and that they would return home to us safely.
